Description: A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a
group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe,
effective, patient- and family-centered care, customer
satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for
assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit and promoting
their own development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice
and education. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff
members. The RN is responsible for assessing, developing,
implementing, and evaluating the plan of care using the caring
processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care. The RN focuses
on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. The RN
applies their educational and professional experiences in the
delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff.
Responsibilities: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy
and procedure or as warranted by patient condition. Demonstrates
the ability to make sound independent decisions. Initiates,
prioritizes, and implements the plan of care while reviewing and
revising the plan as indicated. Collaborates with patient/family
and interdisciplinary services and utilizes resources appropriately
to support the needs of the organization and the patient/family.
Monitors and documents the response to clinical interventions.
Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education
specific to patient/family needs as appropriate to the care,
treatment, and services provided during their stay and at
discharge. Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel
and functions as a mentor/preceptor. Demonstrates, encourages, and
facilitates teamwork and participates in quality, safety, and
service process improvement efforts as well as implementing
practice changes. Complies with regulatory standards and
participates in the practice governance model. Is knowledgeable
about activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental
collaboration. Participates in the development and achievement of
unit goals and performance improvement activities. Effectively uses
communication systems and participates in promoting cost-effective
care. Gives feedback to co-workers and is aware of public policy
and regulatory guidelines affecting the health care environment.
Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for
care. Synthesizes assessment data into a meaningful whole prior to
communication to others. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs
of individual patients and families. Develops relationships with
families that promote their ability to advocate for the patient and
their own needs. Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or
update the plan of care. Utilizes available multidisciplinary
resources in planning care. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize
tasks for patients with complex problems. Reads journals that
contain studies or articles that may be applicable to practice.
Brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of
